This is not an all-inclusive list, it only has the ones that we have thought up or had an issue with so we made it a rule. If there is something that you think we are missing, comment below. Rules for current running bangs will not change while the bang is running. If it’s not listed here, it’s not a rule.
Rules
- The stories have to be at least 5,000 words by posting date. (That sounds too easy but we want this to be a fun little thing.)
- DO NOT SHARE LARGE PARTS OF YOUR STORY BEFORE POSTING DATE. We know this sounds restrictive but we really want the stories to be a big surprise for everyone. We want to reveal a whole bunch of new stories. Snippets for WIP sharing days and teaser days are fine.
- Be nice to each other. Writers be nice to your artists, don’t be assholes. Artists be nice to your writers. If an issue pops up that makes it impossible for you guys to work together. Get in contact with us.
- If stories are not fully done by the end of the posting period, the author will not be allowed to post to the collection. Only complete stories will be approved.
- Stories need to be posted whole and not mitered out over the posting period in chapters. However, stories can be posted in chapters as long as the whole of the story is posted the same day.
- If the author does not finish their story in the time allotted by the challenge, they do forfeit all right to the art created for it if the artist so desires. 80% of the estimated story has to be finished by Rough Draft due date. Concessions can be made but talk to the Mods first.
- These items have to be warned for in the fics: Major Character Death, Incest, Rape/Non-Con, Underage, Graphic Depictions of Violence, as well as extreme kinks like Golden Showers, Scat, Humiliation. Having any of these in your story and not tagged/warned for will make us have a discussion with you about why it was not tagged/warned. Refusal outright to tag/warn for the warnings will result in your fic being pulled and further discussion between the mods about if you will be allowed to participate in a future bang.
- Writers/Artists must stay in contact with at least the mods during the running challenge. Failure to respond to emails in a timely manner will mean that you are considered dropped out of the challenge.
- While the Mods understand that writers and artists want to be able to write and create what they want there are certain things that Mods will not allow and that includes pedophilia and hebophilia. In the same vein, certain things MUST NOT be sexualized, fetishized, or written for titillation, like bestiality or domestic violence.
- Some things should also not be shown in a positive light: racism, discrimination, and sexism. Violence and violent acts must not be fetishized. Can be presented in the context of a crime or a crime scene, but should not be shown in a positive light.
Bang FAQs
- What if I don’t have an AO3 account and want to post there?
- If you don’t have one and still want to participate, we will work on getting you an invite. The turn around is pretty quick but if we have a lot of people who want to do it and don’t, AO3 has a procedure for that. Just drop us an email if you want to go that route.
- What are the minimum and maximum word counts for stories?
- The minimum is 5,000 and there is no maximum. There is plenty of time to make some longer fics but we know that a few people are trying this for the first time so we felt a lower count just to be safe. We want everyone to try!
- How many fics can be written by a single author?
- Two.
- How many pieces of art can be done by a single artist?
- As many as they want? I’m serious. I don’t know how many stories we are going to have attempted but I’m hoping we have some nice artists that will help if we have a deluge.
- Can I do both a story and art?
- Yes, you can.
- What do you mean by every fandom?
- Just what it says, every fandom. That includes everything that you can think of, including RPF. Crossovers and multi-fandom welcome.
- What exactly do you mean by art?
- Anything that you want. A manip, a hand-drawn or computer drawn piece of pretty is all that is needed. Some of the artists may just feel comfortable about making a banner for a story.
- Are artists creating artwork for the stories or doing art prompts for the writers?
- Artists will be creating simple banners/book covers for the stories.
- Do artists have to post their art separate from the story?
- No, it’s totally up to the artist. Some want a separate post from the story so that they can get comments and some just want it in the body of the story posting. Some don’t want their art in the story at all and just in their posting to AO3 or their website. It’s all up to the artist.
- How are artists and writers being paired up?
- That’s what’s going to be a little different for this Bang. Since we can’t anticipate what Fandoms are going to be done, it’s hard to get an artist for every single Fandom. So what we are going to do is have artists signed up to do banners for stories. Simple banners that don’t really need an in-depth understanding of the fandoms being done. We hope that every story gets a banner and we will try our hardest but we can’t force people to do it. Exact details will follow as the process is narrowed down based on sign-ups.
- So what happens if I don’t finish my story?
- No one gets to read it. Seriously, trying is half the game here. You never know until you do. We want people to have fun and not stress.
- How do I get added as a member of the collection?
- We will add each author and artist as a member as soon as they sign up. If you have signed up and we haven’t added you within a few days, please email us!
- How do check-ins work?
- The Mods will send out a reminder email for authors/artists to check in and they respond with exactly where they are in the process. Halfway done? Most of the way? 7,000 of roughly 10,000 words? 80%? Anything like that works.
- If I sign up for 1 fic and want to do 2 what do I do?
- If you need to change the number of fics in either direction, please email the address above before the end of writer sign-ups if you want to go up in fics. Tell us your email you used to sign up and how many you subscribed to write and how many you now want to write. There is no shame in going down. Life changes.
- Do I have to post here on WordPress?
- No. The Mods will just post the links to story and art when it’s the posting day. AO3 doesn’t allow for a subscription to collections at the moment so this is a nice place to subscribe and get emails in Inboxes when news or stories are posted. Stories and art can be posted anywhere as long as a link is given to the artist/writer so that they can link things up properly and the Mods are given it so the links can go out to the others.
- Will betaing be offered?
- No.
- What kind of warnings do I have to tag in my fic?
- Major Character Death, Incest, Rape/Non-Con, Underage, Graphic Depictions of Violence,
- (Artist) What art is allowed?
- A banner/book cover of some kind at the least. You may include additional art if the artist wishes. Additional art though isn’t required.
- Who picks the posting dates?
- When the email goes out for posting date preferences, it is preferred that the artist and the author work together on dates that work for you both. If you can’t reach an agreement, contact the mods and we will see what we can do.
- When does my story/art have to be ready for posting?
- It is preferred that the story/art post is ready to go by the day before your posting date. If you can’t submit to AO3/provide links until the day of, just let us know.
- What time will my story/art officially post?
- There isn’t a set time. It will depend on when the art and story posts are ready to be made public in addition to the mods’ work schedules. We will make the official post on the WordPress site and crosspost on MeWe as soon as we can once we have been informed the art and the story are ready to go.
